2022- WEWA HUNTER NATIONALS 2022
The past weekend saw us host the WEWA hunter 19 National championship with 28 entries from the following clubs – Houtbay (HBYC), Natal were ably represented by Howick (HMYC) and Richardsbay’s Zululand Yacht club (ZYC). The Free-state sent yachts from Vaal Cruising Association (VCA), Lake Deneysville Yacht Club (LDYC) and Deneysville Aquatic club (DAC) with a few boats from Emmarentia Sailing club in Gauteng. Witbank were well represented with 13 yachts and ensured that the club won the Club trophy which is taken from the score of the top 5 entries.
2022- Mpumalangas – WYAC
There were 17 entries in the Regatta, John and Callis Bruckman won with Tony Cockrill and Keith Kirkman coming in second by 1 point – doesn’t come closer than that. with Rory and Craig Hay in 3rd. The travelling clubs were HMYC, DAC, ESC, ZYC and TYC much wider representation that we’ve had in awhile – thanks guys. Ronnie Gurnell, the bridge officer, raced us hard on Saturday getting in 7 races with the final 3 races squeezed in on Sunday. As always the staff and management did an excellent job keeping everyone fed and nourished.
2020 and 2021 – Eish – Covid
2019 – Mpumalangas – WYAC
There were 11 entries in the Regatta, John Bruckman and Dave Martinson came a close 1st, Rory & Craig Hay 2nd with Tony Cokerill and Aysha Genloud taking the last podium in 3rd. The travelling clubs were HMYC, DAC and TYC – thanks guys. Ronnie Gurnell, the bridge officer, raced us hard on Saturday getting in 6 races with the final race squeezed in on Sunday before the wind died. As always the staff and management did an excellent job keeping everyone fed and nourished.
2017 – Nationals – DAC
WYAC entered 6 Boats in the Regatta, John Bruckman and Dave Martinson came a close 4th, Barry Ogilvie and John Wegerle were 11th, Dean Wegerle and Alex Garoufalias 15th, Pikkie & Zenobia Smit 16th, Rory Hay and Stiaan Du Plessis in 19th position our final boat was Michael Fogerty and Corbin Clack in 22nd place but they were also the 1st Juniors – well done boys.
